What counts as AI at work
AI at work is wider than chatbots. It includes:
- general chat assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude or Microsoft Copilot
- AI features inside tools you already use: email that drafts replies, meeting software that writes notes, accounting or CRM software that suggests entries, translation and writing tools
- browser extensions and phone apps that read or rewrite what is on your screen
If your organisation uses any of these, it is responsible for how they are used. Under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA, Québec's Law 25 and the provincial laws) it stays accountable for any personal information staff put into an AI tool, even when the tool belongs to someone else. That is why your employer asks you to take this course.
Key points
- AI features hide inside everyday software, not only chatbots.
- If you use AI for work, your employer is responsible for how it is used.
